How do Solar Panels work?

As solar energy becomes more prevalent in the mainstream energy market, a common question is – how do they actually work?

A simple overview would be that solar panels absorb sunlight into photovoltaic cells to generate direct current (DC) energy which is then converted into usable alternating current (AC) energy through an inverter.

The AC energy then flows through the home’s electrical panel and is distributed accordingly. Any excess energy can then be fed into storage batteries and used at night, during cloudy weather or can be sold to the national grid.
